CAD-GENERATED PATTERNS INTO COMPUTATIONAL ARCHITECTURE BY MICHAEL HANSMEYER

Michael Hansmeyer is an architect and programmer (currently works in Zurich, Switzerland), which explores the use of algorithms and computation to generate architectural forms.
Look how wonderful these columns, generated with computer-made surfaces with geometric and three-dimensional patterns.
The prototypes are implemented in full scale (2.7 meters high); layers are manufactured using 1mm sheet. Each sheet is cut individually using a laser cutter, then collected together with the other, and held together by poles inserted in the center of the column.
On his website you can find in detail the stages of design and production process.
